norton anti virus 2005

I have recently installed Norton AV. 2005 on my xp drive. and the machine has slowed down considerably. i cannot find any reason other then the av. i have 2 drive pon the macine, on the other with W.98 on, the norton AV works fine. help please. :)

What are the system specifications?

Are you setting your virus scanner to continuously scan?

thank you for the reply re Norton AV 2005. The cpu has a speed of 800mth. there is 256 mb of memory and ample space on both the hard drives.  :)
