    uninstall problems with Win XP
    « on: January 06, 2011, 08:56:18 PM »
Hello all, One of my computers that has Windows Service pack 2 was infected with a photo shop 3 download. All of my Windows applications had this program attached. I attempted to send the majority of these to the recycle Bin. When it was full I deleted what I sent and began filling it up again. Eventually I tired of this and went into safe mode to see if I could uninstall windows and then reinstall. I am unable to do so as some of the deleted programs (and I am unable to recover) won't support any action. If I boot to windows I do not get a start prompt and what icons I have left will not open. I am new to this and admit I made a critical error emptying my recycle bin. I have the installation disks. How can I continue uninstalling Windows? Thank-you

Do you want to uninstall programs or do you want to completely remove XP and start over from scratch?

Have your CD drivers ready after installation.

Actually your critical error was downloading what I presume was warez.

Do you have an original XP Cd?

Boot to the XP CD. The installation routine will begin. Format your c: drive (this will, of course, completely erase everything on the drive). Then install XP.

Hi Allan, I attempted to boot the original CD. I will explain what happened later as I must leave for a doctor appointment right now. Will be back in a feww hours. Thank-you

If the system didn't see the cd at boot you need to go into the bios and make sure the cd drive is the first device in the boot order. Save the change in bios & exit.

            Hi Allan,
Thanks very much for the advice. I am reinstalling my XP program as I write. Hopefully, in the near future, I will get better at this.

Hopefully you won't have to ;) . And stay away from those questionable downloads.
