the Only folder visibly affected

Visibly, maybe, but not necessarily the only folder affected.

The Harddrive that has the missing data turned out to be OK. The harddrive is fine and in working order. Ill defrag all the disks, when im done checking the main disk.  The situation remains unchanged.

Guess who just learned that threads arent all on one page. lol didnt see your post for almost 12 hours.

yeah, its totally possible that other stuff went missing, but i doubt it. I searched all around and everything seemed to be normal. That doesnt mean that other folders in some way arent being affected. Hopefully not, but its wouldnt be too terrible if anything else got stolen. Its done the damage already.

So the defrag was a failure. The harddrive with the missing data did not defrag. All it did was "consolidate" and it only did it for like 5 minutes. My main drive did defrag i think. there was no visual so i dont know if it was actually doing anything. the situation is unchanged. sadly.

So, files that disappear; Where do they go? Are they deleted, moved, hidden? Do they all stay together or do they get scattered?

I just dont want them in other peoples hands.

I have just got to ask. What kind of torrents are you downloading that you don't want in other people's hands? Or do you mean to say that you don't want any one else to find these on your comp.

No, I dont care if anyone sees the torrent. Its the files where the torrent was located that i dont want anyone to see. The files are missing, and the torrent never went to the location i wanted it to go. I deleted it before it got past 6% completion.

Incomplete torrent downloads are stored in a separate folder from completed ones.

Alright, but its no longer stored. I deleted it along with everything related to it. So even if it was a virus infested torrent, why would it attack my harddrive where i told it to go, but it never went? I mean, my computer is clean, but the files are still missing!

Why don't you try Piriform Recuva, it's a free file recovery tool.

I am wondering if you got in a panic and deleted them by mistake. Have you looked in your Recycle Bin?

I looked everywhere i could possibly have looked. No i dont recall deleting any of it.

I have a question though. Piriform Recuva, can i run it on unbuntu? And do i need to run this recovery program ON the computer that the files went missing from? I dont know if i mentioned; Im using an external harddrive. The files of course were ON this external drive.

Recuva is a great program, i found all the missing files as well as some things that i thought i had gotten rid of forever. It was an unexpected surprise. I highly recommend Recuva!! Thank you all for your help.  ;D ;D ;D
