a 35$ MP3 player today has the power- if not the capability- of a computer that would have cost thousands about 10 years ago.

I sold a PC a couple of weeks ago for $50. I even threw in a keyboard and mouse. I tried to get them to take an old monitor for an extra $20 but they didn't want it.

When the original concept of netbooks was proposed the target price was $100.  It was to have a slow processor, a small SSD, wireless access, a small screen and not much else.  And maybe a few were produced at that price.  But then people started adding a better processor, a hard drive, and other stuff and the price doubled or tripled.

A Netbook still contains literally millions of times the power of what used to be thousands of dollars of equipment.
