    0xc000000e error help!!
    « on: October 09, 2011, 12:44:01 PM »
Was greeted by a blue screen of death earlier. Can't reach the desktop, can't use the startup repair disc i made, can't go into safemode it just stops at loading the driver Actpcie.sys, and I can't follow any of the steps i've seen around the net because it just redirects me to:

Windows failed to start. A Recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer. 2. Choose your language settings, and then click next 3. Click "repair your computer." Status: 0xc000000e Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

I insert my installlation disk and try to restart but when i do nothing happens. Help?

You need to go into bios and set the dvd drive as the first device in the boot order. Then you can boot to your dvd.

Are you sure you are booting to the dvd? And is it an ORIGINAL Windows dvd?

Yes I'm booting to the CD. I changed the boot priority to the CD first.

Yes, it is an original Windows 7 installation disk. It came with my pc.

Well, either the dvd is bad or there is a hardware problem somewhere, because you should always be able to boot to the OS dvd. Do you by any chance know what the blue screen error was or can you recreate it and copy down the entire error message? Otherwise, you can do some basic troubleshooting:

        1) Change the battery on the motherboard

        2) Check the ram. To check the ram, download memtest (http://memtest.org/). Burn it to a cd using a dedicated .iso burning utility (http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm), make sure the cd drive is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the newly created cd and run the utility.

        3) Open the computer and make sure there is no dust buildup. Use compressed air to gently blow out any dust buildup.

No I can't recreate the message because now it isn't showing the blue screen when i try to boot windows. it just infinitely trys to boot windows.

          1- Battery? Wut

2- Alright I'm going to check the ram

3- There is minimal dust build up. Quite minimal in fact.

Ran memtest. Pass was completed and there were no errors.

            What now?

You need to let it run several passes. And I still suggest changing the battery on the motherboard.

It did run several passes. No errors.

Thank you. I'm not receiving any of the errors mentioned in the article, though.

Would just replacing the HDD work?

Been waiting for a reply for an awfully long time.

Can I get some help here?

Replacing my Battery didn't change anything.

When I try my installation disc again it either A)Loads a few grey bars only to lead me to an infinite Starting Windows screen or B) Brings me to a Windows Boot Manager screen that gives me TWO options: Windows Setup [EMS Enabled] and Windows Memory Diagnostic.

The Mem Diagnostic claims everything is fine and Windows Setup [EMS Enabled] leads me to another infinitely loading Starting Windows screen.

Booting in Safe Mode doesn't.work. At this point I don't even think I can format->Reinstall Windows...
