    mouse and keyboard wont work after boot only in setup xp

    I have a dell on win xp and some files got messed with, i can use the keyboard to go into the setup but soon as i gets to the welcome screen the keyboard and mouse will not work, what can i do?

    Have you tried the F8 safe boot option?
    When the computer is turned on there should be a light on the Num Lock key that comes on. Does it? Does the Caps Lock work?

      the num lock and caps are both on, i  only see an option f2 and f12 for setup and boot menu, i pressed f8 and nothing happens

      Keep trying. Tap the F8 about once a second while the hard drive is loading windows.
