I have a graphic that has saved as 'File'.
« on: December 22, 2011, 09:23:08 PM »
Hi, I have been working on a (detailed invitation) graphic in Photoshop, and thought I had saved it as normal. I went to open it and it is listed as a 'File' and won't open. I'm a bit sad to lose some hours of work, and have probably lost it, but I thought I would ask if I can get it back.

You could try renaming the file extension to what you assumed you saved it as. You could also try dragging the file into a Photoshop window to manually open it.

OK, I tried both and Photoshop says it's not the right kind of document. Looking a bit deeper, I have discovered that it is actually a 'BACK file', which is supposed to be a 'Document or record file that contains non-current items'. Looks like it might stay that way!  ???

A .bak file is a Backup file used by Photoshop, FoxPro, Sony Vegas...
Have you searched in the "Recent Files" section of Photoshop?
You could try to look around in your Temp files:

Wow, you did it. I went into recent items in PS and there they were. Have doubly saved them this time! Thank you both for your input, and have a Merry Christmas!  ;D
