Mouse and Keyboard not working in Windows
    « on: January 17, 2012, 03:51:53 AM »
Having mouse and keyboard problems with my Dell optiplex running windows xp at login screen. Bacically, the keyboard works fine in the bios but as soon as windows boots to login screen the keyboard and mouse are not working at all. Having found some different solutions online it seems that booting without the mouse attached was allowing the keyboard to work and subsequently the mouse itself afterwards. Problem is though that upon rebooting again with mouse attached the same problem arrises. Also, when it does boot the drivers for both mouse and keyboard have to be re-installed each time. Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated...

Can you go into safe mode? Sounds like your Windows installation is corrupted somehow. Got a virus scanner?

Yes can boot into safe mode and even access the system using the method above but really confused as to why this is happening. Yes it definitely sounds like a windows problem but just trying to figure out exactly what may have caused this in the first place. No viruses or malaware detected either.

Does safemode cause the same behaviour?

Its usb keyboard and mouse. With the workaround I described earlier it seems that re-installing the drivers in each usb port seems to have done the trick for now anyway. Very strange problem but fingers crossed it won't re-occur.
