Computer won't start up in normal mode
    « on: February 15, 2012, 02:53:08 PM »
Hopefully I am in the right forum but my computer won't start up in the normal mode. It will start up, go to the black screen which gives me the options of starting normally or in one of the Safe Modes. No matter what I do, it sends me back to that screen.
This is a Compaq Presario desktop using Vista. Any help will be greatly appreciated but please keep in mind that I am not a techie!
    Thanks!

What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?

I'm not sure  yet. My teenage girls use this computer and are always downloading things. I have uninstalled a couple of them but now I get an error message saying that the Windows Installer may not be working right.

Here are some things that I suspect yet I can't uninstall them:
      Yontoo 1.10.02
      Play Pickle
      Living Play
      IMVU Avatar Chat

I have tried System Restore and that didn't help the problem. Is there a way to go back a bit farther such as a month?

Not if you haven't created external backups / images of your system, no. Have you tried the startup repair options by booting to the Vista cd?

I have tried the start up repair options and it still doesn't help. Is there a way to fix the Windows Installer?

I'm a little unclear here. If you can't get into Windows, how are you getting an error about Windows Installer?

Okay, the above statement in your first post made me think you couldn't get into safe mode. Is that where you see the error message? If so, what is the EXACT message and EXACTLY when does it appear?

I am working in Safe Mode now. It will let me in Safe Mode but not in the normal mode. Sorry for the confusion! Now, once I am in safe mode I go to Programs & Features to see if I can uninstall those suspected items I mentioned before. That is where I get a message.
Stand by and I will see if I can post the message,
When I try to uninstall Yontoo I get this:
              C:\Progra~2\TARMAI~1\{889DF~1\Setup.dat
Error 2 while loading archive: The system cannot find the file specified.

When I try to uninstall IMVU it goes about half way and just keeps running.

You did not say you were getting the error when you tried to uninstall these things. Please, you need to give complete information in your first post. We've wasted a lot of time so far. WHAT EXACTLY are you trying to uninstall - what files or programs.
