    Java not working
    « on: May 29, 2012, 09:44:32 PM »
Recently, I was trying to play a Yahoo game for the first time in awhile, but found it did not work. As such I tried updating my Java to the latest version, but found it did not work when I got to the test image.

I've already looked up a number of similar threads on this and other sites, so I can tell you what I have already done that hasn't worked. First, I have uninstalled all old versions of Java, even using a program called JavaRa that got the harder-to-reach parts. I have installed the offline version of Java as opposed to the online. I have scanned my computer for viruses and Malware, and though I did have some, removing them did not help the problem. I am also not behind any Firewalls that I know of. Also, the same thing happens on every browser I have tried.

Here is the console readout thing I got when I tried to play the test animation after installing:

    1. What is the name of the yahoo game. And have you had trouble with any other Yahoo game.
    2. Do you have another computer that plays that same game perfectly well?

I did not see those two essential items in your post.

Looks like it's having trouble connecting to Java.com. If I had to guess I'd say a installed software firewall was blocking it.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

If it's a firewall, it's one I don't know about. I certainly can't find any in my program list.

The built-in Windows firewall doesn't show up as a program in the programs list.

If Java was not installed correctly go to the Control Panel and uninstall java.  Read this Microsoft Knowledge Base article about the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility:

When I started having the problem, I went and loaded the latest Windows Update and it seems now I have IE9 --- and I'm pretty sure that before, I hadn't touched or updated IE in years. But I will try using this cleanup utility thing and report back.

So, is it just hopeless? I've looked on as many forums as I could, and every thread about similar problems seems to end without any resolution.
