SuperAntiSpyware isn't loading up on startup (please help)
    « on: September 11, 2012, 09:34:00 PM »
My computer is Windows Vista 32-bit.

    This wasn't happening before.

However, now, all of a sudden, SuperAntiSpyware won't load up and the icon doesn't appear in the taskbar on startup.

I can still get the icon to load and the program to load by double clicking the icon on my desktop.

I have already scanned using SuperAntiSpyware and nothing was found except for tracking cookies.

Does anyone know what's going on and how to solve this problem?

If anyone could help me out with this I'd really appreciate it.

    Thank you.

Check your SAS preferences - General and Startup tab and checkmark Start Superantispyware when windows starts.

Hmm... that box isn't selected, however, isn't that the same thing as the box that says "Show SuperAntiSpyware icon in system tray"?

      No...
      They are seperate.
One has it start at Windows start...the other enables the tray icon...2 different things.

Oh okay. Well the box is selected now so I'll let you guys know if that worked or not.

          Hmm... it seemed to work...

However... I have to always go to preferences and select the box because the next time my computer starts and I check my SuperAntiSpyware preferences again, the box isn't selected.

          Is this normal?

You don't need to run SAS on start-up in contrary to my first suggestion. :)
It will only just be a decorative not critical component startup service for Windows. Just use the program when needed to scan for cookies.  However, if you have Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus protection,
which also have a very good spyware protection, removal and detection while running in the background. While previously I have to update SAS and scan weekly, today with MSE its atleast every other week with little tracking cookies detected proving that it has highly improvedoverall.

            I... don't think I have that.

I have Avast (free), Comodo Firewall (free), SuperAntiSpyware (free), Malwarebytes (free), and SpywareBlaster (free) as stuff protecting my computer.

That's exactly what I have & how I do it.

You can't run both MSE & Avast, both being anti-virus.  If you're happy with Avast, keep using it.

I'm not sure I even have MSE so I will.

I would recommend MSE as you could always remove free Avast anytime.

Oh... well... if Avast gives me an EPIC FAIL I'll use it.

                  Where can I find it?

                  Google "MSE".
                  1st one on list.

                    k. Thanks.

BTW... the issue is resolved I guess.

I have to constantly load up SAS preferences and select "Start SuperAntiSpyware when Windows starts" every time as the box won't stay selected, but, I suppose I'll just have to deal with that.

Thanks for all of the help.

As was stated earlier there's really no reason to have it run auto on startup...
I simply use it as an on demand scanner...

Running the free version of SAS at startup is pointless. Only the paid version offers real-time protection.
