Make sure both drives are jumpered correctly, then get a WIN98SE bootdisk at www.bootdisk.com

Fdisk both drives, making the main drive (the master) as primary partition and active. The slave drive (drive D) would need to be set as Extended DOS drive and logical partition.

Then after formatting both drives after a reboot, install normally.

I know this has nothing to do with ur post.. I just did not know how to start something on my own. I have a compaq presario 1277 and my mouse decided to not show up today when I booted up my computer. I was wondering if any of you know how I can get it back. It is a laptop and I know knowing. I would be forever in your debt if u could help me.
Thanks
Kristi

Do you have an external mouse you could plug in until we get this resolved? That would make it  a lot easier

Did you get a Win98 boot floppy as instructed? Did you select enable CD support when it started booting/ (that is the first and default choice) If that doesn't get it then you have a hardware problem with the drive. As this creates a rAM drive, that might be what you're seeing on D:

What about dir E:\?
dir F:\?

What kind of machine is this? You never said.

download the correct boot disk from bootdisks.com....for win95......as its not a bootable cd disk........you need the drivers for cdrom drive.....from memory this seems an old post?/~
