SOUND PROBLEM - HELP!
« on: October 20, 2005, 01:49:42 PM »
Can anyone help me with this one?
PCCHIPS M960GV Mobo with On Board Sound (C-Media CMI9761A Audio Codec, AC'97 compliant, Audio controller SiS 7012) running under Win.98.
Problem = No playback device (or Recording device)listed under Multimedia - Properties - Audio tab.
ALL options are "grayed out"
(Should read...C-Media wave device).

FYI:
System Properties show C-Media AC97 Audio Device listed.
Device is working properly
Lists Driver file details (seem to be latest)
No conflicts

Speaker also OK.
CD plays music from disk.

Control Panel - Sounds = No preview of sounds, No volume control etc.
No Sound icon on Systray (task bar)
Any help... please.

I think you will need additional drivers, did you use the disks that came with the system board?
My device manager shows 6 'sub entries' under sound.
    Legacy drivers?

Yes I did. I just put the Motherboard CD in and followed the setup instructions. The machine is for another family member and is not connected to the internet yet.
Please advise, and thanks for your time.

Is there an option to install drivers when you insert the CD into a running computer?
