I don't know if this will help, I have used the older version of ubuntu and it has a program built into it to fix windows boot up problems. I think it was ubuntu 10. I have used it many times in the past and it has worked for me.

    Thank-you all for your help. I used the instructions at http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ss/windows-vista-startup-repair_5.htm along with a Vista DVD.
