Acer laptop starts beeping during charging - new battery

I'm having the same problem broached here - http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?topic=122917.0 on a Acer laptop of similar vintage (bought back in 2009). Since installed a new battery a couple days ago, it has started to periodically beep when plugged in and charging.  There are two short beeps in quick succession, then a short pause, then the beeps again. The first time I was recharging the new battery this started around the 40% mark, and the battery continued to charge to 100%, while at some point the beeping stopped. Now it kicks in around the 20% mark, and when it does, it stops charging - currently stuck around 23% with the 'plugged in not charging' message. I tried the suggested adjustment to advanced power settings found in the thread above - the charging  seemed to re-start briefly but within a few minutes the 'Plugged in not charging' message was back - and the beeping (which can be muted) is ongoing. Suggestions most appreciated -& pardon such a weak first post!!

It is not clear if you tried to charge it for 8 hours with the laptop turned off. Somewhere I read that is recommended for a new battery. Check your user manual.

Power down...remove the battery and cord.
Remove and re-seat the RAM...
Hit the power button for 20 seconds with all disconnected.
Replace battery and cord and power up.

Hi, the screen didn't refresh or something and I just saw the two replies above.

Meanwhile I did the whole remove-the-battery-uninstall-ACPI-Control-Method-battery thing, now it's still beeping madly but so far is continuing to charge. Odd thing - I installed BatteryBar and the icon in the toolbar shows me roughly how long till a full charge is reached - but every time it beeps, the time remaining estimate drops by half an hour, then a second later the time-remaining image changes to saying "A/C" as if it briefly doesn't recognize that a battery is even installed.  The A/C message goes away after a couple seconds.

At any rate I'll try the above suggestions. No I didn't charge with laptop turned off - sounds like a good rule of thumb with any computer!

You said you installed a new battery - Does it still have this issue when you put the old battery back?  What battery did you replace it with? i.e. is it an official Acer one or a cheap copy from eBay?

Hi, the old battery wouldn't charge beyond 1% ever and only lasted a few seconds, so I don't think putting it back in would tell us much! An official Acer battery? Eegads, that never occurred to me - it's a 'Baavo' - wasn't the cheapest one on Amazon...
