As soon as I turn my laptop on it freezes with the dell word and the blue line on the bottom does anyone know how to get past that?

Do you have access to the system BIOS or is it locked out due to Windows 8 UEFI holding it hostage which is a common problem?

I'd check in the BIOS to see if it detects a hard drive present if you can actually get into the BIOS?

Is this laptop new enough to be covered by a warranty repair or replacement?

So how do you suspect a password issue ? ?...if it freezes at the Dell logo it's either a driver or OS issue...

Make sure the laptop is plugged in and remove everything unnecessary (any SD cards, CDs/DVDs, USB attachments, etc.), and then try getting to the BIOS setup (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000192.htm) again.

Have you made any hardware (or BIOS software) changes recently?

I ask about all this because I had a Dell laptop that was freezing up during the BIOS splash screen whenever a disc was in the optical disk drive, specifically, so plausibly a similar problem.

This problem is relatively new to many. Have you tried the Dell Forums?
              http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/
Although your laptop is out of warranty, you can ask for advice on the community forum. Also, with the model information some here who are members of  the Dell Forum might be able to help you.
Did you post the model number?
