A lot of people are asking. No real answer. Not even good rumors.
You can uninstall it if your wish. It also goes to Windows 7 and 8 users. Which means it is not just a Windows 10 thing.
They link below is typical. Nobody really knows.  8)

The update is for Win7 and Win 8.1....just cause it showed up in Win 10 doesn't make it what your topic implies.

What people have now is no the Windows 10 release.
Download Windows 10 Technical Preview ISO
It is called "Technical Preview" and is not yet the real Windows 10.

Why the patch was released has not been clearly explained. Anybody can refuse it. The idea that it is 'ad-ware' is speculation.

X is the Roman numeral for 10. GWX stands for "Get Windows X". It is installed to Win7 and 8.1 by Windows Update KB3035583.  Its purpose is to inform users of their progress in the upgrade channel and offer the upgrade when it is available. I would call it an Easter egg rather than nagware.

In case anybody didn't know, Microsoft will offer a free Windows 10 upgrade to users of Windows 7 and 8.1, for 12 months from the date of first availability. Some editions are excluded: Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise, and Windows RT/RT 8.1.

I just read an article which indicates Windows Vista users can upgrade to Windows 10, also, although it will not be as easy for them as for Win 7 and especially for Win 8.1 users.  Prior to reading that, I thought Vista users would not be allowed to upgrade to Win 10.  See http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/01/24/windows-10-upgrade-guide-what-you-need-to-know/

The article also gave me some confirmation I can update a netbook running Win 7 Starter if I want.

I have not found other sources to confirm what I said in my previous post about Windows Vista users, so I'm skeptical of what that article seems to be saying about Windows Vista.  It might simply not be correct.
