    Can not display page
    « on: September 10, 2016, 07:46:23 PM »
    Hi  -
I am running Windows 7 and IE  11.  My problem is that I get this message:  This page can't be displayed.   If I click on the e-mail icon I get it.  If I enter an address in the address bar at the lower  right corner I get it sometimes.  If I enter an address at the top left corner I get it every time.  Can someone tell me how to cure my problem?    Thanks      Bob

Do you have another computer to test on your internet connection to determine if its your internet connection or the computer itself? Have you tested the health of your internet connection to make sure you dont have issues like packet loss or high latency? Is this over a wired network or wireless?

I do not have another computer available .   I have a connection by landline.  I am going to try some tests using Google Chrome.  I will keep you posted if I find any thing  important .  Thanks for your reply.     Bob

I found that if I use Google Chrome everything seems to work correctly.  To me this means that there is something bad with the browser - internet explorer 11.  I am tied to a land line but it is not a dial up.  I had a tech from my provider come to my house and he said the problem was not from their side.  I don't want to use Google Chrome because what little I know it is about Windows 7 and IE  11.  However I can use Google Chrome  and be happy.      Thanks for your reply..     Bob

The Internet Explorer icon does not appear on your desktop. When you try to use the Desktop Items dialog box in Windows XP or the Desktop Icon Settings dialog box in Windows Vista to add the Internet Explorer icon, there is no Internet Explorer check box.
          That might be....   ;)

Open a DOS (command) prompt with Administrator.  Run the commands one at a time.  After the last command reboot the system and try IE again.  Is it all pages that you get the error on or just a specific page that cannot be displayed?

          netsh int ip reset c:\resettcpip.txt
          ipconfig /flushdns
          ipconfig /release
          ipconfig /renew
          netsh winsock reset c:\winsocklog.txt

If that does not work you may also try Resetting IE.

Open IE Click on the Cog (Wheel) (just below the X to close the window)
Go to Internet Option and select the Advanced Tab
Now Click Reset and follow the on screen instructions.

Thank you.  I'm not sure what I did BUT it worked. I tried to follow your directions and I think it was the reset button that cleared everything up.  My problem was when I clicked on an address I got the following:  This page can't be displayed.  This does not happen now.  Thanks for your help.       Bob

            Not a problem Bob

The commands cleared and reset the network settings to their defaults.

If you needed to do the IE reset that just put IE back to it defaults settings.

            You are welcome

All is not well.  Last night I shut down thinking that reset had solved my problem.  Today I discovered that every time when I shut down the problem came back and I had to click on the reset  again.  Any suggestions?   I'm thinking that my idea of several months ago was the best.  Have santa  bring me a new computer.  I would like one with Windows 7 in it.  Seems like Windows 10 is all there is.      Thank you for your time.    Bob

???  IE does not have an address bar the lower right corner.  If you think your IE does have that, please post a screen capture showing it.

All is well.  I have no idea what I did but everything is working like it is supposed to.  When I clicked on reset the last time, I may have been more careful about rebooting before doing anything else.

I have found other people who did not know about  the address bar in the lower right corner.  Right click on the strip that has  the time and date.  I like to use this because the dates are kept on a little panel and they can be used again and again with out retyping.   Thank you both  for your time.      Bob

I don't currently have a Win 7 system available and I haven't paid much attention to IE for quite a long time.  But, I can open IE 11 on Windows 10 and I find no option to have two address bars.  I do not recall ever hearing of such an option in IE and, if it existed, I probably would have been aware of it at some point.   Can anyone confirm Bob's assertion that IE can display an address bar at top AND bottom of its window?

Without some reliable confirmation, I believe Bob's assertion that IE can have an address bar at top AND bottom is incorrect.
