Date change
« on: January 23, 2006, 09:57:42 AM »
When I logged on Sunday afternoon, I couldn't log onto any of the proboards. At first I thought it was problem with Proboards. I decided to run a scan with Microsoft Anti-Spyware but I kept getting the message that the program had expired in July 31/06. I decided to check the date on my computer and found that it was set to 2084. After re-setting the date correctly I was able to run a scan and found one corrupted file which was removed. I also had to re-load my AVG and everything appears to be operating ok now. Has this ever happened to anyone on this board? Was it a bug?

SuperDave...... Is it possible that someone using your computer inadvertantly changed the date .....that would explain things .....

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

No, it's not possible. It started with my getting a "jusched.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. Next, I received an "AVG error.Action failed for AVGAMSUR.exe. Next, I tried running a Microsoft Anti-virus scan but I kept getting a message that the program expired July 31/06. Then, I couldn't re-install AVG. Once I reset the computer date, I was able to run MS Anti-spyware and one bug was found and removed. I was then able to re-install my AVG and I ran a full scan with nothing found. At present, I have to log on to a couple of Proboards but I get logged out as soon as I leave the site, even though I don't close my internet connection, but I was still logged on to this board.

Well, it happened again last night. This time the date was changed to 2099. I was running a P2P program (Ares) when the screen went black and I had to re-set the computer. Shortly afterward I noticed I couldn't log on to any boards. As soon as I re-set the date, everything went back to normal. I tried duplicating that event tonight to no avail. Does anyone have any idea what's happening?

I am not convinced that system is clean. Using P2P is a great way to get infected wih lots of stuff. Pay particular attention to the Ewido note, but do the full drill.

I'm using AVG, Microsoft Anti-spyware,AdAware SE Personal, Spywareblaster and SpyBot plus Ms Firewall. When I run scans, everything turns up negative.

SuperDave, if your time changes after a shutdown overnight and startup the next day, it can be due to a problem with the CMOS battery on the motherboard.  It may need replacing.

Soy, this latest date change occurred while using P2P Ares. The screen went black and I had to hit the re-set button. That's when I noticed the date change. I tried to duplicate the event but it didn't do it.
