Rackmount server recommendations.
« on: January 09, 2021, 07:55:42 PM »
Hey everyone, I'm looking into setting up a rackmount server cabinet at my house to do some filehosting for a website I am fond of. While I am extremely versed in normal desktops, rackmount setups are going to be new to me. I know I will have no problems when it comes to anything Windows/Linux or anything to do with the hardware itself. I just am not too sure what type of hardware I am going to need to suit my needs. I have some equipment I would like to purchase that I found on eBay, I am wondering if this will properly suit my needs.

Here are my setup requirements:
-I need a cabinet to actually store the servers. I want one that is possibly a 6-4 rack cabinet that can allow me to expand over time.
-I want this server to be able to perform tasks such as filehosting, BOINC number crunching, or running a game server.
-This needs to be a college-student budget-friendly. I have no issues with used equipment.

Here is the equipment that I am thinking of purchasing:

I already have a good ethernet switch to use, as well as all the power cables needed.

Is there any equipment I am missing for this setup? Are there any better options for these requirements? Let me know!
