I turn off the pc by going to start icon....shut down.
After the pc shuts down....afew minutes later it turns itself back on....?

Go into your network settings. Locate the properties for your ethernet (nic) card, and disable "wake on lan".

When going into network connections I am not able to find disable lan wake up icon or area.

Since you didn't mention your OS, this is for W9x.

Right click network neighborhood, select properties
   or in control panael double click network icon
You should see a list with your nic listed. Click on it to highlight it. Select properties. Click the advanced tab.

control panel/system/advanced/settings >startup and recovery>/system failure/uncheck-automatically restart.

You can also disable the LAN Wakeup call from the BIOS.
