woefully ignorant

Hi, I recently got an AMD Athlon 64, 3500+ processor. It's running great, but the info package I got with it was slim, and there's a couple basic things I don't know. There's a space on it marked "CF/Microdrive". I looked this up and got some info about a Compact Flash card. Is this something similar to a floppy disk?

And there's space for "SD/MMC/SM/MS/MS-PRO/xD". ??? I have no idea what this is. Tried to search the forum, the net, without much luck. If anyone could please give me some basic info on these two things, or point me to somewhere where i could find basic info, i would really appreciate it. (previously I was using a 6 yr old computer with cd-r drive, floppy disk drive, so that's where my knowledge is at).

I'm assuming you just bought a new computer, running an AMD Athlon 64 processor, which has a drive that looks somewhat like THIS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.asp?image=21-104-108-02.jpg,21-104-108-03.jpg,21-104-108-04.jpg&CurImage=21-104-108-02.jpg&Description=MITSUMI%20Beige%202.0MB%203.5"%20Internal%20USB%202.0%20digital%20card%20reader%20and%20Floppy%20Drive%20,Black%20Bezel%20Replacement%20Included%20Model%20FA404M%20BG%20-%20Retail.

You've never owned a digital camera or mp3 player?  Most digital devices use some kind of digital media card for storage (of pictures, mp3s, etc.).  There are several types of cards used by different devices (e.g. compact flash-CF, secure digital-SD, memory stick-MS, smart media-SM, and so on)

Hope this helps.  You probably already have this info from searching online.

Yeah, that helps thanks, enough that I can figure out the rest. I've never used digital cameras, M3P players, etc., because I've been broke til recently.
