Hey Fed. No, I didn't see the link to VoodooFiles.com. Thanks for the heads up. It seems like half of the programs on the list are converters or DVD rippers though. Their might be something good in the other half, but it'll take a while for me to get around to systematically trying each one that looks promising.
Maksim, thanks for the tip. I downloaded it and tried it out. First, I was disgruntled at the software for needing way too much personal information to be filled in before it would even let me install the software. It wanted full mailing address, name, and e-mail address before it would continue. I wonder if they'll actually try to snail mail spam "1313 Mockingbird Lane, Transylvania Pennsylvania"? I'm also a bit suspicious of some of the "Madison Media" files that were installed on the machine. Windows Defender detected some system changes from some files that I think had the name "Madison" in them, but was unable to block them. I'm definitely going to give my system a thorough comb-through.
I winced but decided to try to do my simple video edits and then uninstall Sony Vegas. When I tried to open the first video file, a friendly box popped up informing me that the trial version did not support opening MPEG files, but if I would invest a modest sum of money into purchasing the full version I could edit MPEGs as much as I wanted. *sigh* I just don't feel like converting them to a readable file format and then reopening them in Vegas. Sorry.
Thanks for the effort though. Looks like this editing project will have to sit on the backburner for awhile. I thought there would have been more opensource video editing solutions out there. Anyone want to start a project on sourceforge with me?
