Clean Start up
« on: August 19, 2006, 06:43:55 AM »
When my laptop starts up it takes a long time and I wold like to reduce the list of programmes that start.
Most are unnecessary and are probably on my desktop.
As I haven`t got a clue, could you please explain in simple persons language.
Thanks
Martyn

The best place to start is from within the programs themselves, look around in them for options to stop them starting at boot up.
After that you could look in msconfig, then run a Hijackthis log and see what's left.
You would also benefit by disabling unwanted windows services.

One step at a time. ;)

    Click Start>>>Run>>> type msconfig
    Then Click Start-Up Tab
Then untick which one you dont like to run at start-up

if really need assistance with that...
Would you please post the screenshot of the above i mentioned?

If you give us the names of the items you disabled in the System Configuration Utility, we can look them up and tell you what they are.

delete the programs from the start-up folder found in start>programs>startup

Unfortunately, the forum does not provide a way to upload pics; you can only point to a Web site address where the image is located.  If you set up a Web site, you will be able to do this.  Otherwise, you have to enter the names yourself, if you still would like us to look them up and advise you on what is a virus and what is harmless.
