Re-enabling pop-up windows in internet
« on: October 29, 2006, 12:34:33 PM »
When I "cleaned" my computer last January, many pop-up windows were blocked. Unfortunately, sometimes I need to get into a certain pop-up window. I was signing up for a dental plan today and could not print my cards or enrollment info as they were a pop-up window. Can anyone help me on how to re-enable pop-up windows. I have Windows 2000. Thank you.

What browser are you using?
And what version?

Internet explorer 6.0 - sorry, should have noted that in my email. Thanks.

Make sure java script is enabled. If you are using Sun Java, make sure it is checked in internet options/advanced.
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

Did you install some sort of blocking software? Something from your ISP maybe?

    Switching to Firefox would help
However, if you must use IE, you may want to use IE7 instead of IE 6
As for popups in IE6, there should be a little icon at the bottom on the right side, looks like a little window with a stop sign on it, which indicates if popups are being blocked
There should also be a bar bat the top saying "popup blocked.  To see this popup or additional options click here..."
Click the bar and select "always allow popups from this site"
Click yes in the dialog box
Now you should get all popups from the site you are on
If you need to remove sites from the allow list, go to Internet Options, then the privacy tab, and popup options are at the bottom of the window
    Hope this helps

Sorry about that, I thought it would work the same with IE6 regardless of operating system
I didn't realise it was different
      Sorry

I used a "registry cleaner" that included stopping pop-ups. I was hoping I could go back into it, and do something in reverse - ha, ha!

Seems like Win2k just became redundant.   :o

Thanks to all of you (not just Calum) for answering my question.  When I can do it, I will upgrade to either IE7 or Firefox. I'll just try to work around it right now. Thanks for taking the time. Cheers.  :-/

        4. Internet Options
        5. Security tab
        6. Reset all 4 security zones to Default
