Help me set up a new network
« on: January 27, 2007, 04:49:21 AM »
Hi everyone

I've recently baught a new computer, and want to network it with my old one, in order to share a printer, scanner (both USB plug and play), internet connection and files. They're in the same roon, so a wired network will be fine. My new computer has a network port on the back, next to the USB slots, but the nearest to that I've got on the old one is a V.90/56K Telephony Modem, which I used to connect to the intertent before broadband apeared. I've got two questions:
1) Do I need a router/hub for both computers to use my printer and scanner, and
2) can I use the modem to connect to a network, or do I need some new hardware, and if so what?

All help and advice appreciated,

Network novice
