Author Topic: Why Can't I access my old topic? (Read 5109 times)

Well I started a Topic a bit ago called Trying Out Linux for the first time but every time I click on it I get a message saying: An Error Has Occurred!

The board field does not accept / in the query string

Can anyone tell me what to do so I can read this topic again? it had some great linux beginner information.

I've noticed a few of these.
I figured it was either a glitch or the topic had been deleted or something.
Be interested to know what it is.

I think maybe it has to do something with people deleting there accounts.

So someone who posted in the topic deleted their account which made the topic unreadable?

That is what I am assuming because I saw earlier a topic that had a post from a deleted member and the same error occured. But that is only an assumption so I might be wrong. I guess a mod deleted the topic already.

Tis is referred to a s the "ex-member" bug. When someone deletes their account, then the whole topic becomes inaccessable to all. THe admin has been notified, but we have not solved it yet. Post away again, though, if you like.

i believe it actually occurs randomly. i say this based on the fact that i have been able to access "ex-membered" threads before. some "ex-membered" threads work, some do not. i guess you got the short end of the stick this time.

There's a FAQ article on it now.
I may be a bit late but I just got back from school.
It can be really annoying though, especially when it's a good thread.

Huh. I seem to be on quite the roll tonight.. After a lot of fiddling around and manually editing and fixing the file I did manage to recover this post. Felt it would be the best thing to do since it seemed like a good series of posts. In any case you should now be able to access it.

If anyone happens to encounter this issue again let me know and I'll see if I can maybe create a script to manually correct it in the future. Really don't want to have to spend the time randomly manually correcting files, but if I could create a script to correct corrupted files, may not be that hard to run a command every now and again to correct the error.

Although I wasn't involved in the topic, I was watching it a little.
Does this mean other inaccessible topics are fixed as well, or just this one?

From what I have read, and I do realize I have said this before, the maitenence tools will in fact recover those lost posts.

I encounter lots of corrupted posts that actually can't be corrected by the default YaBB tools. Supposedly the YaBB mods are capable of doing it though. But haven't taken that step yet.

This internet is SO fast, even faster than Comcast. I cant belive it, everything "just loads" for you, providing that the server side is fast.
