hello! hope someone can answer this!
« on: February 20, 2007, 06:06:48 PM »
Hi! I'm new to this site and was wondering if anyone knew the answer off hand-- a few days ago my mouse seemed to freeze-- now it works, but when I click on an icon (for example) a dialogue box pops up and has me choose from the menu...I tried going into my mouse settings, and again folder settings with no such luck. I have a feeling I need to press something on my keyboard since the cats always jump on it  >:(  any ideas?

What version of Windows are you running? In addition when the dialog box appears what is it prompting you to do?

Is this the same menu you see when you right-click with your mouse?

Is that all that appears in the dialog box?  No Cut, Copy, Paste, and more?  What happens when you right click?

Definitely something should happen with a right-click.  Can you provide a screen shot?  (See the FAQs for help with that.)

That is normal for the default icons.

how do I change it back? it just started doing this after my mouse froze (before it just would open without choosing the option from a dialogue box)

make sure that the check box in the red box in the image below is un-checked as it is below. make sure no keys are stuck on the keyboard also

Not quite - that menu you're seeing is supposed to appear, but only when you press your right mouse button.  Hence the suspicion that you've inadvertently swapped your mouse buttons.

Have you tried a different mouse?
