    Today's Games
    « on: March 27, 2007, 03:33:57 PM »
    Hey, again  :)

I just wanted your guys oppinion on how SLI 7600gts x2, 1gig of RAM, and a Pentium 4  3.2Ghz line up would run todays most demanding games? I heard spending that extra money on Dual Cores and 8800s isn't worth it right now for just a gamer.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Have a machine here that is a Pentium 4 2.4GHz with a Gig a ram and also a much higher end computer that is running a Dual Core. I believe and I'm pretty sure it has been mentioned elsewhere that Dual Cores can definitely increase the overall system performance especially for gaming.

However, whether or not it's worth it is really up to you and if you're actually running into performance issues with the games you're playing. I've played Oblivion and Gothic 3 on both of the machines I mentioned above and although I can't really compare the two because the dual core machine is a beast and has a lot more than just the dual core I believe the dual core did help a lot.

If you're not running into performance issues you could just wait a while longer for quad cores and better to start being released and save some money as the dual cores and better begin to drop in price.

Yeah, I've still got to order my last 7600gt and the Gig of Ram for my system to be done, I have a good feeling I'll be ok with games like bf2/2142/Oblivion and what not. We'll see what happens, thanks for the input man!

That system will handle today's and tomorrow's games with ease.
Dual core is not necessary now, and nor does it provide much of a boost in most games.
I play BF2142 and the like with lesser specs just great.

        I read a lot of benchmarking reviews on video cards and of course "most" are in new systems with the E6600 or 6700 ....and they fly no doubt about it  but;
Calem is for the most part right on...If your able to  (disable) some of the background junk in windows, turn off the virus stuff, etc....  and are just running the game,  the Pentiums do just fine and with a good PSU & Mobo + those 7600GT's in SLI.....you should be jamming!   <<  for the  $$$ of course,  still respectable performance now days... ;)

mobo- MSI P6N SLI / LCD Samsung  226BW
        Ram- G-Skill dual HQ / Speakers- 5300e's

No joke, this guy could run today's highest graphical games with ease.

I mean WoW only suggests 512mb RAM and a minimal NVidia Graphics card.

WoW isn't the most demanding game out there at the minute though.
You're right though, that system will easily handle intensive games for a while to come yet.

It's about how well you maintain and tweak your Windows installation, not just how much money you can squander on buzz-terms.
