win98 stops at c prompt during boot up

When it stops at the c prompt I must type in win for it to continue. anyone know why?

Get TweakUI from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp

On Boot menu, select Boot to GUI.

msdos.sys may have been deleted or corrupted or your path may have been changed so the proper directories are not being pointed to. If either of these is the case, you can correct the problem without tweakui.
