I'm new to Vista.
My friend has a few month old HP Media Center PC m7757c with an E6400 Core 2 Duo / 2048 RAM / 400 GB HD / NVIDIA GeForce 7500LE video card and it's running Vista (pro?)
This computer is hooked up to comcast high speed internet via a D-Link modem and a D-Link G wireless router.
He has two browsers: IE7 and Firefox 5. Firefox has a Google menu bar below the main menu bar. IE has at least 5 menu bars beneath the main address bar: and HP menu bar, a Google menu bar, a coupons menu bar, a Comcast menu bar, and a Norton menu bar. Mostly while using the IE browser but also with the Firefox and indeed with no browser open, this computer keeps making that annoying cord.wav sound which according to the the information I found by accessing "sounds" from the speaker icon in the task bar, this sound is associated with "Close program". Besides being annoying when I started the computer this morning I got a message for a critical update and one for an Apple program which "changes the default color settings of Windows". The critical update would not download and if there was a change in colors I certainly did not notice it.
My friend swears that all of these sub menu bars came with the computer out of the box. I have a feeling that he has downloaded programs that may be in conflict with each other.
Any feedback for me on this?
Also, I can not seem to find "Windows Explorer" on Vista. Has MS change the name or eliminated it?
