Sound issues
« on: May 16, 2007, 02:15:15 PM »
I sent the following to the company that bought Sigmatel Audio, and then they directed me to the OEM (Dell) and they gave me a solution that didnt quite work.

Here is the email
I am having problems that seem to be caused by my Sigmatel High Definition Sound Card

The problem is this:

When I run a high graphics game, with all the graphics options up, the sound starts crackling and skipping like a CD.

There is no problem with the video card, and it is not the computer. It is a known issue with the Sigmatel driver that I have.

Also, when using Windows Media Player, the Sigmatel card causes the read ahead optimization to cut out the music (causes the end of every song to start skipping like a CD, and then pause, and then finish) as well as making every song pause for a few second (about 5 seconds) before it starts.

I am using Windows Vista.

What I did do was this:
I uninstalled the driver in Safemode, and just restarted, and Windows Vista fixed part of the problem for me, the read ahead optimization and skipping while listing to music has been fixed.

Now the problem only remains for The Sims 2 (PC Game)
I have 1GB RAM
120GB HDD
Dell E1505
Windows Vista Home Premium (YAY)

I have also tried installing the newest driver

Do you think it is a problem with the hardware, the drivers or with Vista (Yay!)

Firstly, thanks for your responses (I know how boring it is to read long amounts of data)

Definitely not Hardware, most problematically the driver, since uninstalling it and using a generic one fixed part of the issue

I just dont know how to fix the issue with high graphics games

Gamer's are usually way ahead of the curve when it comes to what they are passionate about...

Check each game's Forums for Vista tweaks...

I wouldn't say that they are all specialists...
Thats why I stopped helping people on their forums.

Too many question repeats. The most common one:
"Why is my pond water red?"

Why do you play The Sims? You really should play more violent games.

Playing violent games is important when you're growing up, otherwise you'll be a sissy all your life.

The Sims is for sissies, I once played it and my couple got a kid, but I didn't name the kid properly and I figured that if I starved it to death they could go ahead and make another one. Unfortunately, some lady picked it up and took it away. I ended up killing them all by locking them in a room with just a furnace and no windows or doors.
