Our new mod.!
« on: May 27, 2007, 03:42:00 AM »
It seems CBMatt has been hard at work. He's locked many resolved topics, and is seemingly doing some maintainance on many posts.

It looks like CH is changing.

Thanks.  At the moment, I'm focusing mainly on the Virus/Spyware board because some people will keep posting in those threads long after they've been resolved.  One thread was resolved on the second page, but the discussions continued on for a couple more pages.  It's not a big deal, but I would rather try to prevent this.

If the other moderators feel that this is an issue in the other sections, then they will also have my attention.

      I have the power too.
Looks like you've been doing some good work over in the virus section CBMatt, nice one.
Oh, and Dark Blade, I made no hints about becoming a mod, so that's not the only way to Nathan's heart.

We should have like this big initiation ceremony (or just thread) for every new moderator, because CBMatt just became a mod. without anyone knowing (unless I missed something?).

My hints were purely unintentional!  At least I think so...  Ha.  I hadn't slept in a couple of days, so I have no idea what my mindframe was.

Personally, I feel that Calum is more deserving than I am.  And I'm not trying to boost his ego or anything; he's just done a heck of a lot of good around here and I know everyone would agree with me.

I appreciate the sentiments, but there's no need for a ceremony or anything.  You can have one for Calum, though, if he wants it.  Heh.

And don't worry, Mike, I only use my powers for good.  You should still be afraid of me, though.  Very, very afraid...

We didn't trumpet our promotions, there's no need.
New moderators aren't a common occurrence, so you'd be waiting a long time for your next initiation ceremony.

Patio has also just became a mod, bringing the total to nine mods now.

Congratulations on becoming a moderator CBMatt!!!

PS: How does one become a moderator these days?

There are really no requirements to become a moderator, otherwise once someone met them I'd have to immediately make them a moderator. If you'd like to become a mod I don't mind getting PM's asking about it, but I can't just give everyone global moderator access.

Here are a few things I try to look at.

              1. Clean posts. Posts that have good spelling, grammar, etc.

              2. Time on forums. Users who are often on I think would make good mods since I and other mods can't be on 24/7. If someone is already spending a lot of time on the forums it's more likely they'll be on to keep the forum clean.

              3. Post count. Although it's not a good thing to rate someone by post count alone, if they have a high post count and their last hundred or so posts appear to be helpful that helps.

              4. Good posts. Although I've been bad in the past about keeping up with everything that's going on in the forums. Recently I've been trying to read as many posts as I can manage. So it's likely if you're making good/bad posts that I've noticed them.

              5. Behavior. Someone who has follows the forum rules and that I've not had to warn them about doing something that could be deemed offensive.

Those are just a few things that I'm able to think of off the top of my head.
