RAM over clocking guide:

http://www.techenclave.com/forums/ram-overclocking-guide-2457.html

There are a number of reasons your computer may be slowing down:

1)  Missed scheduled maintenace
2)  Malware
3)  Registry

If you download and uninstall numerous programs...some footprints are left behind in the registry and have a tendency to slow your computer down.

To help improve the performance of you PC, perform routine maintenace at least once every 6 months.  More frequently if you notice the computer starting to slow down.  Also, stay on top of you malware protection software and any critical updates for your operating system.  A registry cleaner is also a handy tool, too.  However, if you're not sure what a registry is or does...I'd have some one take a look at it for you.

One of Computer Hope's most recommended software programs is CCleaner.  I use it myself and it's a handy piece of software.  I also use Registry Mechanic, but it's not free.

With 1GB of RAM...you should be able to multitask quite effeciently.  It also depends on what you are using this computer for.

i got this from the manual (online) for my motherboard

This motherboard supports Untied Overclocking Technology, which means during
overclocking, FSB enjoys better margin due to fixed AGP / PCI bus. You may set
“CPU Host Frequency” option of BIOS setup to [Auto], which will show you the
actual CPU host frequency in the following item. Therefore, CPU FSB is untied
during overclocking, but AGP / PCI bus is in the fixed mode so that FSB can
operate under a more stable overclocking environment.

boo........  Let me say that usually, users who are heavy into gaming will overclock their systems to hopefully achieve better preformance when running their games.
If you don't understand overclocking, don't even consider it unless you need a new doorstop.
You would be better off to do a good cleaning of your machine and you may be surprised at the change in the way it runs.
Make sure you include a defrag in your cleanup procedure.

You make it sound as if your meltdown was caused by defragging......  That was not the case, it was hardware failure.

ok my overclocking dreams are dashed.
so i asked b4, what slows a pc down?
im not talking about more prgrams using processor speed at the same time, i mean installing more programs over time
