is heavy metal a bad influence on teenagers
« on: June 09, 2007, 06:40:55 PM »
i completely disagree with the information given on this site - http://www.megaessays.com/viewpaper/45570.html
that's my opinion. i believe that it's all got to do with your level of maturity, initial mental stability, and your upbringing. i've been listening to heavy metal from the time i was 4, and i'm listening to bands such as slayer and slipknot to this day, i find it has a calming effect on me, but maybe i'm just mentally disturbed to begin with  :-\

lol note the professor's name in the article, excuse the immaturity  :P

No offense, but I think you're mentally disturbed for Slipknot to calm you  :P

Maybe it's because you've been listening to it for years.

lol i am disturbed... that's a good band too come to think of it  :P

but it's not just heavy metal that calms me. i usually feel like hitting someone or something around me unless i'm listening to anything that can be considered 'music'', not rap or anything, but i think that's mainly because i work with pc's a lot  :P

It has long been suggested that “music soothes the savage beast.” But is this true? And if it is, does this have any implication where humans are concerned? The answer, apparently, is yes. To illustrate this, researchers point to the different physiological changes that take place within the human body in response to different sounds and noises. A loud noise that shatters the silence sets the human heart racing and stimulates a rush of adrenaline that prepares you for flight. In contrast a soft, soothing sound helps us to relax.

In an effort to get back on the topic of the poll . . .
In my own humble opinion, and I am not trying to star a flamewar, I hate all of those groups.
I do, however, love listening to Iron Maiden and Judas Priest (that's the only metal I listen to really).
The former - I listened to them by accident when I was looking for something else and liked them.
The latter, I was forced to listen to on pain of a fate worse than death (imprisonment in Raptor's basement and endless humiliation on BF2142) by the one and only Raptor.
But I do like them.

raptor is close enough to being a moderator in my opinion... how many posts has he got now? nearly 12,746,000. What's his status again? forum overlord? yeah, i thought so. it's all a conspiracy.
