Windows XP on new hard drive in Laptop
« on: June 13, 2007, 06:09:03 AM »
My hard drive has gone on the laptop and I need to fit a new one.  the old one had XP installed but no CD was included.  Question is does anyone know if a copy on cd can be got from Microsoft if I give them the product ID on the back of the laptop or if not how do I get XP on the new drive without having to buy a new copy.

Unfortunately...copies are illegal.

Your cheapest bet is to contact the manufacturer and see if they can send you recovery software...you'll find it cheaper than buying the retail verison of the OS...alsso, the recovery software includes the OS, drivers, and applications that were originally installed on the laptop when it was new.
