Before anyone goes off on me...
« on: June 27, 2007, 06:33:18 PM »
I've had a little chat with the Administrator here...

He as well as most of you know...I have my own computer support forum.  I currently link to CH on every page as well as the Resources Directory within my forum.

I also enjoy contributing here as well...I really do.  I look for nothing in return from anyone except maybe a thank you for the support I give other members and/or guests.

I currently have a page within my forum that I use to brag about CH, but I haven't really been here long enough to do the page justice.  Here it is:

http://www.saviour-pc.com/forums/view.php?pg=computer_hope

Here's my question to you...CH members...

Would any of you be willing to contribute to this page...maybe suggest additional content or maybe even a different look.  Keep in mind the headers and footers will be of my current forum.

What I'm actually looking for is content to go in between the body tags of this current page.  I have no qualms about doing this...or its affect on visitors to my forum or yours.  My intent is totally unselfish and I just want an advertisement page to this forum.  It's a great forum.

Now that that's out of the way...I'll need opinions as to how I should use the contributions I receive.  It'll be very difficult to combine everyone's suggestions, but I'll do my best.  I guess I could have a contest, here, and the winning contribution would receive a copy of PC Tools Spyware Doctor with one year's free updates...a retail value of $29.95 (USD).  The winner would receive the software in an email from me along with the activation code...however, that's only if we decide to make it a contest.  I really don't want to go off the deep end here.  I just want a decent CH page within my forum.

A lot of you may think I'm doing this for traffic...some of you may even think I'm trying to steal members...

Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Granted...Some will want to take a look at my site after this post...but it's their decision whether or not they want to join.  Look...I contribute here...my forum...my main website...my High School Reunion website...and other forums...It's my choice...and I had no one twist my arm...and I'm not twisting yours.

Others may think I'm nuts linking to a competing site...who's competing.  Dont we both offer the same thing?  How many visitors does this site have?  How many does mine have?  To me...it's unimportant.  I just enjoy helping people.  I hope you'll look at it the same way.

So post your thoughts and we'll go from there...

I'm looking forward to the diversified comments I'll probably receive from everyone.

Thanks guys and gals...

-Steve

well.. i'm sure you may have seen a few of my ''rant'' posts before :P (not really a rant, i just feel the need to explain things in detail where appropriate), but, that's not gonna happen here.. i'll try to make this as short as possible.

first off: i don't know what all the fuss is about with people saying you are ''advertising'' or trying to attract members or traffic or whatever it may be. if this was an issue, i'm sure someone would have realised a long while ago what you were up to, but i know that's not the case, and in my opinion anyone who thinks otherwise is probably being ignorant. >:(

secondly: i support anyone who supports others. i'm sure this is what you do, after all you did say \/
Others may think I'm nuts linking to a competing site...who's competing.  Dont we both offer the same thing?
i think it's perfectly reasonable and i wouldn't want people ''protesting'' if i were in your shoes.

finally: i know that after a short rant like that and showing my support and such i should probably give you my suggestion now, but i won't. because it's 3 AM and i really can't think at the moment :P
but i do agree with your idea of having a contest to dictate whose ideas to use. one question though.

how will it be judged? :-\

:)

Thanks for the compliment...and your opinion...I appreciate it.

I think it only fair that Nathan judge it...since it will reflect his site, but he's a busy man.  Hopefully, he'll speak up on this one.  Maybe he could appoint someone from this forum to judge.  Otherwise...I guess I'd have to do it.

Sound fair enough?

Easily the best.

I think this page is a good idea.
I most certainly would like to contribute, but I can't because I'm busy.
Dropping in now and again at both forums, as I do now, is fine, but I can't take on anything else right now, sorry.

Other than that, I hope we get some good suggestions here, I'm looking forward to reading them.

On more thing - please, let's not turn this into a flame thread, as has happened before?
Just before it happens . . . don't start, anyone.
Thanks.

I don't know if it really should be a "contest", I think it would be better for it to be a "group effort". But I'll be more than happy to judge or check out the final version.

Yes, let's not turn this into a flamewar.  Saviour has a great forum and I'm happy to contribute to it, just as I am happy to contribute to this great forum.  I don't think of it as a competing forum at all.  If anything, I see it as more of an extension of Computer Hope.  After all, the majority of the members there are also members here.  Besides, both forums are simply trying to provide free computer help.  None of us benefit from having more or less members, aside from the satisfaction we get from helping.

With that said...let's all be civil and make a good impression for both forums.  And I think a group effort is a good idea.  I'm not too sure how much I can contribute to this project, but I'll be sure to provide whatever ideas I come up with.

     8) Hello, I am kind of new to this forum stuff, but I have many years in Hardware and software stuff. I would like to add something to your new forum. The big forums get to the point where there are so many posts that it is hard to says something new about a topic.  I think what you are doing is normal and proper. The is a lot of space in cyberspace. That is what makes it attractive. We need more onions from a wide range of people. Some forums get to be dominated by a dozen people, so the thing to do is start new.

What I'm looking for is described in the first post of this thread...basically, a page to replace the one listed in the first post.
