Boot but no display
« on: July 14, 2007, 02:09:28 PM »
my computer has worked fine for almost a year now. yesterday it turned off on me mid game playing call of duty. i didn't know what to think of it, and today i was running adaware and it crashed again only this time instead of just rebooting itself normally like the last time it didn't display anything on my monitor as though it wasn't plugged in to my computer. i check to see if my video card was connected good and the fan wasn't burnt out but i didn't see anything wrong with it. i listened for the hard drives to boot and they seem to be working fine. any ideas?

what are the specs of your system
how much memory what graphics card etc..
There are three possible things that could be the problem( i think )
    1. your graphics card is shot.
    2. your memory is shot,
    3. your mobo is shot.
take out your graphics card and plug your monitor into the onboard graphics see where that gets you, also if you have any spare memory put a diferent module in but do these two things seperatley so you can eliminate either one then we will take it from there
    all the best
    cheers

you can try any slot that is what they are there for providing that it is a pci display adapter, Did you get the beep codes for both cards ?

was it the same code 1 long 2 short?
if so the if you have looked at the link
i sent you then  as you can see that particulatr code refers to display adapter problems,

what happens when you have 2 sticks of ram in?

no beeps, i think i figured it out though, i tried my card in my brothers computer and it worked fine, so im thinking its the pci-e connector coming from my power supply

well actually scratch that i tried a different ps and no dice. but i know the video card works because i got it going in another computer. i guess that leaves the mobo and the RAM. but if it was the ram i would be able to boot from one stick would i not? unless both sticks burnt up any other suggestions for checking this out?
