i need help. . not sure if this is where this belongs

hey, i need some help! im new and all and im not sure if this is the right place to post this but here i go.
ok so i was typing up a book in Corel Word Perfect 8 (outdated, I know) and then one day the weirdest thing happened. i tried to open the file, named 'Book 1' and it came up with a thing saying 'Conversion in Progress' and then opened it as a small, blank white image in 'Untitled Document'.  I had made sure I was saving it and everything as I went along, and I had never saved over it or anything. No one else ever gets on my computer. I know that for a fact. I had typed eighten chapters. My back up file was still normal, except for the fact that only the first eight chapters were there.  Does anyone here know how I can possibly restore my 'Book 1' file or something? I put alot of work into this and for it to just slip through the cracks like that, ahh it makes me mad. I really need help. please!

    Was the file originally created in another program?

      I'm not exactly sure if this is allowed but you could try posting the file here and we could see if the data can be extracted by other means.

      If thats not allowed then PM me, I'll try help - if indeed the data is still actually in the file.

      What is the file size of the file, and the backup?

      no, the file was craeted in the same program, Corel Word Perfect 8. . and I'm not to good with computer stuff, so, DeltaSlaya, could you please explain to me how to post the file here?
      and also, the file is 199 KB (204,674 bytes). And now the back up is gone. I can't find it. jeez dangit. im screwed.

        Firstly, seeing that the file is over the limit zip it up first by right clicking and > Send to > Compressed folder, or if you have winRAR use that. Check if it's under 128kB now.


        Then back on this page:
        When you are replying, click the Additional Options button at the bottom.
        Click Browse, and navigate to your document file.
        Make sure the correct file is in the white box thing and click Post.

          How interesting.... I don't have Word Perfect 8, but I opened the file with Notepad and Word, and I could scroll way down into the file, but all there was were blank lines, as if the spacebar had somehow gotten pushed. When I opened it in Word, there was a count of 58 pages, all white. Maybe the formatting on your document got messed up somehow.

            So you saved the file and turned it off, then when loaded the file again, it came up blank?

            And System Restore will not change personal files and folders.

            yes, it always opens it as a blank white image in 'untitled document' like it got changed into a picture or something.
            and yeah, i figured that out about system restore after i tried it. . haha

              Soybean, I unzipped and opened the file, and it was 52 pages of blankness.

              before this happened it was like 80 something pages with words on it. this is so weird and frustrating.
