NEC and Hitachi team to water-cool hard drives
« on: August 05, 2007, 11:07:13 PM »
Score one for water-cooling fanatics. NEC and Hitachi just announced a partnership focused on developing a liquid cooling system for hard drives. Let's take a look at how liquid cooling typically works, why it's attractive, and how Hitachi and NEC plan to liquid cool a hard drive.

There's no need to water cool a hard drive, full stop.

Very true. A small fan missing a blade would cool a HD down.

Most HDDs do not even need a fan, if the case is well-ventilated.
This is just another move to make money out of people who want a quieter PC without having much know-how, in my opinion.
There are so many more affordable and more effective ways to quieten your PC than this.

But my water cooled keyboard is way better than your water cooled mouse will ever be!

Heh. I don't know having a clear plastic water cooled mouse (really just a mouse with water in it) would be pretty cool. Especially if you had little fishes swimming in it.  ;D

Now if somebody else is making a million bucks selling these next year,  don't say I didn't tell you so!    :D

On second thought,  forget it.   The SPCA would probably get into it with lawsuits and all.

My next big project, get a big old mouse, refit it with the current laser technology and put a small fish tank in the unused space.
Might actually work.......with a hatch to open it for food and stuff....

Well I wouldn't game with a fish inside you're mouse. (The fish wouldn't last for long.)
Oh and what if the fist is getting old and he is getting to big?  :P

Maybe live fish wasn't the best of ideas. The mouse does get a lot of movement, although I recall from somewhere there being platform shoes with fish in them and I would think a shoe gets more movement then a mouse.

However, all that being said someone already has created the idea.

What about a water cooled monitor?
So you don't need a LCD it will be projected on the water.
And you would have a waterfall at the same time.
I'm going to be rich!!! :P

Don't improvise and get in the shower while holding your CRT monitor.
It would be enlightening.   You'd get a charge out of it.
