FireFox is much slower than IE

I know this shouldn't be wright but in my case IE is like 3times as fast as FireFox.
What can be the problem and how can I fix it?

Specs:
Windows XP prof SP2
IE: v:7
FF: v:2.0.0.6

Well the first time it took about 15 to 16 secs.
But now its around 8 to 9 secs. IE needs only 2 to 3 secs. (with the same homepage.)

Have you recently defragmented?

I have IOBIT smart defrag. it defrags twice a week.

And how many themes and add-ons do you have installed for Firefox?

Yes but they only talk about options that I have to change to make it faster.
But my computer is fast enough so I shouldn't have to change them.
Anyway I changed most of them.
That makes it a bit faster but its still not the speed that it is suppose to be.

Try FireTune...it makes those changes automatically and saves your old settings as well...
But i agree stock FireFox settings should be fine with the horsepower you have.

I've run across extensions and themes that slowed things down. These are not written by Mozilla for the most part. Maybe try un-installing one at a time to see if there's a difference.

Frankly, I feel FireFox is slower than IE, too. It is a bit slower in my XP sp2 running in a 2Ghz 256MB but slows down more as memory is decreased in my old Windows 98 computer with 64 MB. I believe in my 98 that IE 6 is much faster in that lower memory environment than FireFox is.

You might try Safari or Opera. I hear both are better for speed but I have not heard any news about security. Anyway, I like Zone Alarm for the security issues. Zone Alarm doesn't slow things down appreciably in my experience. It just keeps one bloated log file that I delete every so often.

Not an expert on any of this, I just thought you might like a shared opinion.

And that is the most annoying thing.

Uninstall FireFox.
Run CCleaner to clear things out.
Install FireFox ( 2.0.06 ) is the latest.
Import your settings from MozBack...
