    hidden folder on desktop

    How to retrieve hidden folder or icon on the desktop? i hide a folder on my desktop and now i am unable to find it. i am using Windows XP.

    Windows 95
    Open My Computer.

    Select the View menu and click Options.

    Select the View Tab.

    Select the Show all files Radio Button.

    Click OK.

    Windows 98
    Open My Computer.

    Select the View menu and click Folder Options.

    Select the View Tab.

    In the Hidden files section select Show all files.

    Click OK.

    Windows ME
    Open My Computer.

    Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.

    Select the View Tab.

    Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.

    Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.

    Click Yes to confirm.

    Click OK.

    Click Start, Programs and Accessories and open Windows Explorer.

    Select a hard drive from the left hand side of the Windows Explorer window.

    Select View the Entire contents of this drive.

    Windows 2000
    Open My Computer.

    Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.

    Select the View Tab.

    Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.

    Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.

    Click Yes to confirm.

    Click OK.

    Windows XP
    Click Start.

    Open My Computer.

    Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.

    Select the View Tab.

    Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.

    Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.

    Click Yes to confirm.

    Click OK.


    Windows Vista <--- *Glares*
    Click Start.

    Open Computer.

    Press the ALT key.

    Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.

    Select the View Tab.

    Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.

    Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.

    Click Yes to confirm.

    Click OK.

      i did it many times. still i am not able to find that folder.

        in search it is coming. but when i choose the option in tools....Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.  it revert back to its original when i click apply(Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option)....OK. second mistake i have doen is i changed the icon of that folder as an EMPTY SPACE making it more difficult to search. thanx in advance

          If you can find it in Windows Search, can you right click on it and choose "delete"?

            i had the same problem do this if you can

            Go to registry editor by running regedit in the run box.
            Go to this key:
            HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
            Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

            In the right hand area, double click hidden and change the value to 1.

            Now you’re all set to go. Check it in your tools menu if the changes have taken effect. Mine have already been fixed :-)
