    No ethernet found in XP?
    « on: September 10, 2007, 05:22:48 PM »
    Hi,

If someone had a pre-installed Vista system and don't like it would you down grade to XP Pro? I tried down grading but my Ethernet won't recognize. I even tried installing drivers for it but it still won't work or would all of you keep the Vista? My Ethernet name is:

    Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet

How can i get it to work in XP Pro?

Hav you tried visiting Broadcom's website for an XP driver?

If you've already downgraded to XP, you can also run Windows Update to see if there is a driver there as well.

Yes i tried getting the drivers but they didn't work. I took XP off because it wasn't recognizing the card. I couldn't go to the upgrade. How can i go to upgrade when i couldn't connect my Ethernet to the internet? This is the only computer i have.

Re you sure you're using the correct driver for your NIC?

There are two at Broadcom's site for the following chipsets:

      5781, 5786, 5787, 5788, 5789

Is this Ethernet Adapter onboard or is it a separate card?

Is your computer 32 or 64-bit?  There are two different drivers on the Broadcom site for the NetLink...

Please take a look again...here's the page I've been looking at:

      http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/netlink.php

      Good luck!

I am not sure if it is separate or onboard and i am not sure what number to choose and i am also not sure if it is 32 or 64 bit. How do i find this out?

You can find out if your computer is 32 or 64-bit by going into System Information...it'll tell you there.

Also...if we knew the manufacturer and model number of your computer we could find the specs for you...or is this a custom build?

If the NIC is onboard...this means it's built directly into the motherboard...if not, it's a separate card.

I know what onboard and separate means. To this of it, it may be separate but i am not sure. I never looked into the inside. When i went to control panel then system. It said 32 bit Operating System. My product key on the side of my PC is.

          Removed

          Does that look right?

Okay...we now know you have a 32-bit system...

You may want to remove the Product ID you just posted...not a good idea.

BTW...can you tell us the manufacturer and model of this computer?

Is it a desktop or notebook?

I'll see what I can do to find the correct driver for your computer...

That's why I posted the link...

It will help you find the correct model of your computer...

This way we can determine the correct driver for the NIC (Ethernet).

I don't see on that site on how to find my model. I seen enter my product ID but my ID is way too long and it cut me off where i couldn't type any more digits or letters.
