Can't resume from standby
« on: October 04, 2007, 05:43:21 PM »
Hey everyone. I seem to have a problem with the standby function on my computer. I'm running on a Windows XP Pro SP2. I have my usb devices (keyboard and mouse) enabled to allow them to get me back from standby, but when i enter standby and press the buttons on my keyboard..  the numlock comes back on but nothing else happens. the light on my monitor remains an orange colour. Also, i remember when i was able to enter standby and the noises on the computer weren't there. Now, it's the same thing as if the computer were running. I don't know what the problem is here.. can anybody help me out? If i need to provide more details, just tell me to do so. Alright, thanks for any help. Bye now.

If this is a USB keyboard travel to Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager...find the keyboard and all instances of USB roots and hobs...right clik each of them and select Properties/Power Management...un-select "allow Windows to turn this device off to save power".
Re-boot and see what happens.

There are generally 2 modes of standby...S1 and S3...S1 just shuts down your CD drives and HDD's, Graphics system and cards, and leaves most of your fans running, .i.e, Case fans. But S3 is more complicated, It shuts down everything except for the RAM, which it keeps just enough juice in to keep its memory, and resumes from that...

So from that you should be able to tell which one it is :)
