Nero screwed up DVD drive

so I know a guy who just installed Nero 8 on his comp. (windows Vista gateway laptop)  Shortly thereafter his CD rom drive stopped working.  I checked that his drivers were up to date and they were.  No DVDs or CDs can be read.  The drive in device manager has a ! by it and says something is corrupt in the registry.  Error 19 or something.  Any ideas on how to fix the DVD drive?  I uninstalled Nero and rebooted but the drive is still messed up.

How about System Restore, if he "just" installed Nero?

As Broni said it may be easiest to try a system restore, which would just be restoring Windows back to an earlier copy. Additional information and steps on how to do this can be found on the below document.

thanks guys.  I know how to do a system restore in XP, but could you give me the path in Vista?  I have a mac so I can't practice this sort of PC stuff.
