Shared internet problem
« on: October 31, 2007, 03:07:12 PM »
At my apartment complex, they provide internet that is a DSL line shared between 5-10 different apartments.  Needless to say that at times it is terrible to try and get anything done.  I was wondering if there was any way that i could force a certain amount of bandwidth to my computer from the other apartments.  There is no limit set separate apartments.  Thanks.

My advice: talk with ISP provider and ask for a better agreement (larger bandwidth guaranteed).
Other point of view: from your router you may try to "reserve" a part of WAN bandwidth. It is a viable option IF your router supports this - I mean the router at which all of you are connected and you will have a *censored* of a time with your neighbors when they will find about your "trick".

I advise you to get a better contract with your ISP or to get a personal contract (you will be "alone" on your line).
