Dear God... please help, with vista search problem.....!

Hi, thank s for reading.
let me explain... girlfriend loooking through pc and using vista search searched for pics and long with our pics came up a pic of an ex that i had deleted. Gf thought i hidden image on pc somehere(dont have the ability!)
after searching forums i think it seems a common pronb in vista that it can hold images if has long complicated name, (forgot to say when i tried to delete pic she found, message said can not delete as file already deleted). Anyway decided to follow some advice on a forum and things got complicated./...
What id did was, and the problem is i dont know how, was turn something of,which resulted in if you search for pics it  says 'no items found i your search' and obviously there are pics casue i have seome in my pictures and sharing folders,,,, anyway  would like to reverse what i did. would prefer know what is there!! and also know someday the little lady wll want to search again, and then it will look worse like i have hidden them, which i would have!

So basically , summing up, when i do vista search i cant find any images.anyone help? anyone who ever had gf problems hear my cry....!
And then after that we'll deal with how in *censored*'s name to delete properly this 'deleted ' images...

Sorry, hit a nerve I guess! Anyway you chose to share all the girlfriend stuff. You could have just said "I broke Vista search because of something I did, I forget what, that I saw on a website". When people include unnecessary or pointless details there is always a temptation to react to them. This is a free site, we are all volunteers, so maybe you should ask for your money back?

have you tried

(1) checking "Include non-indexed, hidden and system files" in the advanced search options
(2) using *.jpg as the search

You are sure the files are actually there?
You can't remember what it was you turned off?

There are a lot of bugs in Vista Search, files vanishing and then popping back up again, I believe Microsoft will address this in Service Pack 1.

Many people are using Google Desktop Search instead because of their frustration.

I use little free utility Super Finder (http://www.softplatz.com/Soft/Utilities/File-Disk/32998.exe), because I don't like programs with too much overhead, like Google Desktop Search.
It works very well (included in right click menu).

First thing I did on XP was disable the indexing service.

Good thing, you reminded me...I had it off, then I turned it on for a reason, I don't remember, so it's time to get back to normal, and turn it off again.

Start/Search...type in *.jpg and hit Enter...be prepared for alot of results.
Then go through them and remove the offending pictures.

Repeat the same with *.gif  ; *.bmp ; *.psp ; *.pct.

And we're not judging the relationship thing. Women are sensitive by nature and something slipped thru the cracks.

then, reinstall everything,and behave from now on.

thanks for all the help, relationship advice and other! lol

But sadly despite following  alla dvice i stll cant find my pic, includng any miages i have in my pics etc.

All that comes up are the standard set images on the pc , none of my pictures........

Has the is query just got everyone confused and beaten? casue it sure has me..............

confusedandhowso, are you quite sure that the pictures are really there, and are you quite sure that the "thing you saw on a website" didn't delete all of your pictures?

well  if i go to 'my pictures' i see, well, my pictures.......and same in sharing folders,

and before if isearched vista pictures... all these images showed, no they dont....

Not all photos on a machine go to "My Pictures"...

yes i have done that, and yes lots of images come up ,but no pictures of mine. thats what i mean as in before alll pictures of mine showed up at the top, from my pictures, from sharing folders etc.....

Now there is no sign of them,and no way to group all images of mine or saved by me together..

It sounds like you may have deleted the folder where your pictures were. Could they still be in your recycling bin or did you empty that?
