I have a question
A pc running xp home shows all executable files with the default microsoft 'paper' icon and will not run when clicked. how would you fix? ???

Are you refering to word/excel/notepad/ wordpad/etc..

no all icons on desktop. windows files. think i have my answer think its a virus.

if you are go to scan for bugs unplug the pc from the net and disable system restore.....or scan in safe mode f8 key on boot.....did you use the hide desktop icons feature..or are you using tweakui.......or try sfc/scanow in the run box..if some of the suggestions fail to work then its a del shelliconcahe job.....update us ....if you solve it?
