With any laptop, the most important thing is an extended warranty. at 13 months, a failed display will cost more to replace than a new laptop.

The second most important is battery life. 9 cell is ALWAYS better than 6 cell if you spend time unplugged. I have always discouraged the Dimensions, favoring the Latitudes. Vostro is still a pretty new thing.

THen there is the operating system issue. Do you need or want Vista more than XP? XP Pro is an extra $100, I'm sure.

Without making your decision for you, does that help?

OK, add in an extended warranty on the Vostro, either from Dell or others, and compare. If it's even close go for the Vostro.

There is a thread dedicated to spending stupid amounts of money on Macs under the "Apple" category.

              Visit it, and be enlightened.

Effing ludicrous suggestion.  PC any day over Mac...in any form.

Thx calum. My friend keeps pushing me to buy a mac, but i think it is overrated. All this money for what a stable os. which i don't mind but still too much for a mac.

My own opinion is that everything Apple produces is utter rubbish.
                    iPhone, iPod, iMac . . . iHateit.
It might look good (if you're into that) but the combination of high prices, a hard to use (personal opinion again) OS, very few games, and less programs available than for Windows, makes it very hard for me to see any good points for a Mac.

I absolutely agree Calum. As far as the performance of the cpu and the stability would you say it's worth it? Can i get a better laptop for equal or lesser value? ?If so do you mind giving any suggestions? I would appreciate the help.
