Internet is, how should I put this, "picky"

Im connected to the internet fine and everything, and most websites work just fine, but there are certain ones that my internet always says "it cant display" or whatever. The websites are not down or blocked either, its just my computer. any suggestions??

Sorry to *censored* in here - but I am having the exact same problems and was coming on here to ask the same question.

I have a Gateway laptop.  Windows XP.  I have wireless Internet.  I know it is not my Internet as my other laptop will open the pages fine.  I also have Norton.  Some of the web pages I can't open are:

Walmart.com
photobucket.com
walgreens.com
mypoints.com

I can however open other similar sites like Jc Penney, Lowes, picturetrail, etc.  I can't even view icons that have been uploaded to photobucket on message boards. 

Any advice?  I have a feeling it might have to do with Cookies but have no idea how to fix it!

2. Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users:

    * If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
    * To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
          o Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
          o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
          o If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
          o Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
    * Click Close to exit the program.
Post SUPERAntiSpyware log.

I installed firefox and it didnt work either.  Have you had any luck katrinamm ??

The first one would not let me go to the link.  The Super Anti Spyware said "Administrator will not let you run this".  I tried to do it in Administrator mode but I never could pull up anything to load it - wasn't in my files.  I haven't tried the 3rd one since I wasn't able to do the first two.

Your HJT log is clean.
Couple of thoughts:
- you have a lot of startups, some of them unnecessary (we'll take care of it later)
- I can see, you're using router. Try to connect your computer straight ot the modem, and see, if it makes any difference
- When using your old laptop, were you connecting through same router?
- Try to access those "stubborn" sites in Safe Mode (be quick, you have no protection there)

1. Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.

2. Close all windows, except for HijackThis.

2a. Go Start>Control Panel>Add\Remove, and uninstall Bearshare (if present).

3. Put a checkmark next to the following HijackThis entries:

- R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = http://search.bearshare.com/sidebar.html?src=ssb

- R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://search.bearshare.com/sidebar.html?src=ssb

4. Click on "Fix checked" button.

5. Turn off System Restore:

- Windows XP:
   1. Click Start.
   2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
   3. Click the System Restore tab.
   4. Check "Turn off System Restore".
   5. Click Apply.   
   6.  When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
   7. Click OK.
- Windows Vista:
   1. Click Start.
   2. Right-click the Computer icon, and then click Properties.
   3. Click on System Protection under the Tasks column on the left side
   4. Click on Continue on the "User Account Control" window that pops up
   5. Under the System Protection tab, find Available Disks
   6. Uncheck the box for any drive you wish to disable system restore on (in most cases, drive "C:")
   7. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click "Turn System Restore Off" on the popup window to do this.
   8. Click OK

6. Restart in Normal Mode.

7. Turn System Restore on.

8. Run HijackThis again, and post back its log back here.

ok - I am feeling really computer stupid right now.  I unpluged my Internet from the router and plugged it into my computer and it said LAN connected but it wouldn't open any web sites.  I also disabled my wireless thinking it was the problem but it still wouldn't work. 

Yes, I had the same router when I used my old lap top. 

I am going to try in safe mode - will update after that.
